🌞 The Solar System
The Solar System is our “space family.” It is made up of the Sun, eight planets, their moons, and many other heavenly bodies like asteroids and comets.
- The Sun is at the center of the Solar System.
- The planets move around the Sun in fixed paths called orbits.
Anything we can see in the sky at night or in space is called a heavenly body.
Inner Planets (small and rocky):
Mercury – Closest to the Sun, very hot during the day.
Venus – Brightest planet, also called Earth’s twin.
Earth – Our home, the only planet with life, water, and air.
Mars – Called the Red Planet, has dusty land and big mountains.
Examples:
Stars (like the Sun)

Planets (like Earth, Mars)
Moons (Earth’s moon)
Asteroids, Meteors, Comets
🌌 Galaxy
A galaxy is a very big group of stars, planets, dust, and gas held together by gravity.
Our Solar System is part of a galaxy called the Milky Way.
At night, we sometimes see a cloudy band of light in the sky—that’s the Milky Way!
- There are billions of galaxies in the universe.
